How It Works

Five fish. One coin.

More than a catch, it’s a journey. Your authorization never expires, so take a season or take five years.

01 · Register

Buy your $30 Slam authorization before you fish. Catches from before you sign up don’t count.

02 · Fish

Catch any five Pacific salmon in BC, salt or fresh water, in open fisheries with a valid licence.

03 · Snap

Photograph each fish, then release it or keep it, and record the catch on your licence.

04 · Earn

Submit your five, get verified and earn your coin. Then start another Slam for the next one.

The Founders Coin

Earned, not bought.

Finish your Slam and earn the limited-edition Chinook Salmon Founders Coin: a collector’s coin for those who make a difference.

Along the way you track your catches and unlock badges. Complete a Slam and you can start a new one to earn another coin or a new badge. Each fish counts toward one Slam only.

The Rules

What counts.

You need

Before your first cast:

  • An active Slam authorization
  • A valid fishing licence for the waters you fish, salt or fresh
  • Any required conservation stamps

Counts

Every fish in your Slam:

  • A Pacific salmon caught in BC
  • Caught after you registered, in an open fishery
  • Photographed, and recorded on your licence

Doesn’t count

Grounds for disqualification:

  • Foul-hooked or snagged fish
  • Fish caught before you registered, or outside BC
  • A fish already used for another Slam

Summary only. The full rules are at pacificsalmonslam.ca/rules.

Catch. Release. Conserve.

Let them go strong.

Releasing a fish? A few habits give it the best chance. Keeping one? Dispatch it quickly and handle it with respect.

Gear

Use barbless or small hooks, larger lures and dummy flashers.

Fight

Keep the fight short, release at the waterline and use the net as little as you can.

Handle

Keep the fish wet, support it horizontally, take your photo fast and release it facing into the current.
